Out
with the old, in with the new! A white-on-white theme is classic
yet simple, the perfect way to toast the past and celebrate the future
with family and friends. An all-white table can feel arctic, so set
it ashimmer with silver accents, like napkin rings, charger plates
and footed hurricanes. Add sparkle with beaded glass plates, crystal
champagne flutes and a symmetrical silver bead centerpiece that lends
an air of formality. Flanked by chandelier-style votive holders, it
captures the elegance of a candelabra.
A bit of bubbly adds to the festivities, whether you serve it by the
glass or as part of the place setting. To make a pretty place card
favor, write each guest’s name on a self-adhesive label and stick
it to the front of a mini champagne bottle. (Look for labels with a
silver border or color a border on white labels with a metallic pen.) As
the clock ticks toward midnight, pour the champagne, lift your glasses
and say “Cheers!” to a brand new year.
How to Make a Silver Bead Centerpiece
Go for Hollywood glamour with silver beads, swags of crystal and creamy
candles nestled in glass and silver candleholders. Use real crystal
if you have it; if not, faux crystals give the same effect.
- Buy loose silver beads at a craft or hobby store.
- Place the
beads in a hurricane or globe-style vase. (Other shape vases will
work just as well, so use whatever you have.)
- Anchor a white taper
candle in the middle of the beads. Make sure it’s tall enough
to reach the top of the globe.
- If the candle seems wobbly, attach
a piece of hook-and-loop tape to the bottom of the vase to hold the
candle upright.
- Flank the bead-filled hurricane with two votive
holder “chandeliers.” Hot-glue
craft store prisms around the candle cups to up the elegance.
