Just as a stunning frame accentuates artwork, a window
frames a room, showcasing the world beyond and letting in healthy, mood
brightening light. Whether you want to dress your windows to the nines
or bare all, these four lovely looks will make your windows shine. (And
not one of them requires a needle and thread!)
- Softly Sheer. A colorful garland of silk and dried flowers sets off
simple sheers to perfection. Entwine several floral garlands (available
at craft stores) into a romantic header and attach it to the curtain
rod with floral wire, finishing the look with a windowsill planter filled
with matching flowers. To keep a room looking fresh, change the garlands
with the seasons.
- Beautifully Bare. Bare the windows and let the sun
shine in with a no-sew swag that’s a real “glass” act.
Just drape fabric over existing blinds or ready-made sheering, gathering
it into sophisticated swags with special swag-maker hardware (available
from QVC).
You don’t
even need to hem the fabric, just tuck the ends under for a look of
easy elegance.
- Flirtily Flounced. Turn your windows into shameless flirts with this
inviting look that gives sunlight the come-hither. Top store-bought
print curtains and matching balloon valances with a coordinating swag
of solid fabric, secured with a saucy coordinating rosette at each
corner. For added romance, tie the sides with bows to make billowy
Bishop’s
sleeves.
- Fancily Filtered. For a window that’s glamorous without glare,
cover the glass with a light-filtering film that looks like expensive
frosted or etched glass (available at home improvement centers like Home
Depot®). Finish with a fabric topper that swags stylishly across
the window. To make, simply drape fabric over any curtain rod and loop
it around once at each end to create poufs, then let the fabric tails
cascade down on both sides.
No-sew curtain craft kits and hardware are available from QVC.
