Sparkling New Year's
Whether it's a brand-new year or a black tie ball, shimmery silver and white help you celebrate in style. For music, try playing "Pure Disco" by Various Artists, "Save the Last Dance (Soundtrack)" by Various Artists, or "Jazz 'Round Midnight" by Billie Holiday.
Accent Pieces
Special occasions call for glitz and glamour, so go all out. Make a festive backdrop by tacking silver lame to the walls and attaching strands of silver disco ball beading (Available at most party stores). Give plain white plates pizzazz with silver chargers and a veil of silver mesh netting draped over each place setting. Sprinkle the table with iridescent glitter, add iridescent white tea candles in clear votives, and scatter silver ball ornaments and slivered almonds around the table.
Centerpiece
The best-dressed tables are wearing a head-turning centerpiece of fashionable white feathers. It's easy to make: Sprinkle a tall, clear vase with iridescent glitter; fill it two-thirds with rock salt, and insert 10 to 12 white plume feathers.
Favors
Use Super Glue (R) to attach rhinestones to white tented place cards; spell out guests' initials for extra glitz. Napkins are nattily dressed in black bow ties for men and rhinestone tiaras for women. (Tiaras are available at most accessory stores.)
Food and Drinks
The New Year is all about good cheer, so top a purchased bakery cake with gorgeous jumbo-size strawberries whimsically decorated with melted white and dark chocolate to look like tuxedoes. Pair with a champagne cocktail--then top off the evening with Top Hat Shooters--just add two parks Kahlua® to shot glasses and very slowly pour in heavy cream.
