This cheerful dinner companion doubles as a place card and favor, directing
guests to their seats and giving them a sweet treat to take home afterward. Collect
jars from friends or flea markets or you can buy new ones online. Each
jar takes about five minutes to put together, and you can whip up a whole
batch at once. Make extras to keep in the fridge and you’ll
always have a spur-of-the-moment gift within ready reach.
Here’s How:
1. Fill a small glass canning jar with your favorite store-bought
jam, jelly or fruit spread. A jar with an embossed fruit design
adds a nice homey touch.
2. Use pinking shears to cut a piece of gingham fabric into a
5”x5” square. Select a color that complements your
table décor, or if you’re giving it as a gift, match the
color to the fruit.
3. Center the fabric square over the jar lid and secure with a
thin rubber band. Tie a contrasting color satin ribbon around the
lid and into a bow, covering the rubber band. Snip the ends on
a diagonal.
4. Write the guest’s name on a decorative self-adhesive
label and stick it to the front of the jar.
Great Gift Idea: Slip a jar into a napkin-lined
basket with store-bought scones, and it becomes a thoughtful way to welcome
a neighbor, thank a hostess or wish friends a happy housewarming.
